If you are moving into a new home or preparing one to sell, it is important for you to understand some things about colors and color theory as you select the paint for your new rooms or think about what will appeal to buyers. Exterior trim colors need to be in the same color family as your brick, stucco, or siding - and all colors should blend with the roof color. Interior colors should not be too dramatic, or differ greatly from room to room. Changing the value (lightness or darkness) of a color in adjoining rooms or ceiling to wall can be soothing and pleasing to the eye. Bright colors are great for accents, but not usually for walls, and they make rooms appear smaller - as do dark colors.
