Las Canitas is a small but thriving and trendy part of Palermo. It is approximately six blocks square (growing) at the north end of Palermo right next to Recoleta, it is perfect for discovering these two very famous neighbourhoods. Although small, this former slum is a newly discovered gem that has become well known for its young trendy night life, great clubs and culturally diverse restaurants. You can find everything, Chinese, Thai, Japanese (sometimes in the same restaurant) or great Jewish and Eastern European cuisine hidden amongst Buenos Aires newest apartment buildings.
Close to the polo fields and a short walk from Palermo's famous parks, Las Canitas is a relaxing place to stay with convenient access via public transport to wider Buenos Aires. It is a barrio that I like to visit at night, the crowd is young and professional and you do not feel like you are in a throng of Buenos Aires' tourist traps - you actually get to meet the residents! I highly recommend Las Canitas to travellers who want to be close to Recoleta and Palermo without breaking the bank. Lots of the newer apartment blocks have both swimming pools and gyms, and the landlords tend to use tasteful neutral decor and furniture.
